Former Congresswoman and well-known Telugu actress Jayasudha is most likely to join the BJP (BJP). She reportedly consented to join the party after being approached by the saffron party leadership.

She and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy are anticipated to formally join the BJP together at a public event that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would address in the Munugode Assembly constituency on August 21.

Rajagopal Reddy recently left the Congress, and on Monday he handed in his resignation from the Assembly. In 2018, he won a seat in the Munuogde constituency.

According to reports, BJP MLA and former minister Eatala Rajender approached Jayasudha and invited her to join the party. According to reports, she presented the BJP with a list of requirements and informed the party hierarchy that she would only join the organisation if those requirements were satisfied. The central authorities of the BJP must give their approval before the state leadership can proceed.

The invitation to Jaysudha is a part of the BJP’s efforts to win over prominent figures and party leaders to its cause in order to improve its chances in the 2023 Assembly elections.

The actress, who starred in numerous films in the 1970s and 1980s, entered politics in 2009 at the request of then-Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.

2009 saw her election to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from the Secunderabad district. However, she was unsuccessful in keeping the seat in the 2014 elections.

She joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 2016 after leaving the Congress, however she was largely inactive there.

She joined the YSR Congress Party in 2019, along with her son Nihar Kapoor, under the leadership of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who also happened to be the same year’s Andhra Pradesh chief minister.

While highlighting her close ties to Andhra Pradesh, Jayasudha was clear that she had no intention of running for office.
